Soccer Anyone?

We bought the kids (ok, mostly Kaitlyn since the ball is pink) a soccer ball today. We thought they'd have to wait to try it out until another day but were lucky enough for it to stop raining and let the sun shine for a while. So the kids got to get out and have fun. And I got to play with my camera. I love the sports setting that lets me take photos one right after another - bam bam bam bam!

Kailtyn loves the running part. And the kicking. She's not so in love with playing the game by the rules and tried to get her dad to do it her way. So also didn't think the makeshift goal was good enough and after letting her dad have his way for as long as she could, she remade it so that it was taller and had a back (all out of scrap pieces of wood).

Tyler liked kicking it, but even more he liked bouncing it off his dad's head!

We also realized that the kids would probably have a lot omore fun if they each had their own ball. But since Walmart only had pink balls and a lot of empty shelves, we will have to fix that problem later.

Air Show

Hill AFB hosted Air Force Week this year (only 3 cities host each year), culminating in a big open house/air show this weekend. We couldn't pass up the opportunity to take the kids and weren't disappointed. They had a lot going on, both on the ground and in the air the entire day. We only made it until 1:00 when we decided to go out to lunch then head home before Tyler got too far past his naptime.
I don't think the photos need any explanation.

Fishing

Sam has been talking about fishing lately so I got him some stuff for our anniversary. And we decided Sunday would be a good day to try it out. We drove up to Smith and Morehouse, which was beeeeeuti-ful! So pretty up there. And it was a beautiful day, great temperature. And so peaceful and quiet up there (if you don't count the kids talking nonstop).

We haven't been fishing since before the kids were born. And I have to say, I now know why - it's exhausting! Kaitlyn was so excited about the whole thing she couldn't quit talking. Nor could she be patient enough to sit there and wait for Sam to set up the poles or to wait for a fish to bite. And Ty just wanted to get into everything - especially throwing rocks into the water. He also isn't steady enough to climb around on the rocks by the shore on his own so the whole thing was nerve-racking. And even after taking the kids on 2 walks to keep them busy, we were ready to head home after an hour.

I don't think we are going to give up on the fishing. But next time we will be better prepared. And try to find a spot that is more kid-friendly. Live and learn, right?

Dance Recital

Kaitlyn's dance recital was on Saturday. Kaitlyn had been going back and forth between excitement and being a bit scared about getting up in front of all those people.

My little dancer did a wonderful job, of course. She is definitely one of the more shy ones on stage and basically mouths the words instead of belting it out with the rest of the girls. But she knew all the dances and all of her cues. And didn't appear scared to be up there performing.

Her favorite part? Getting her flowers at the end :) And the cookies and punch afterward.
