Happy Birthday Sam

Sam turned 31 yesterday. We kept it low key. A few gifts, dinner out at Texas Roadhouse, and dessert at home. I think the kids were more excited about it all than Sam.
Tyler couldn't wait to see the presents opened. He was literally rubbing his hands together in anticipation.

I tried out a recipe for Boston Cream Pie Cheesecake for dessert. It was a lot of work but tasted good. The kids had fun slapping on the candles.

And it took what felt like forever, but he did get all the candles out in one breath :)

Birthday hugs from the kids

And while I'm at it, here are the lastest photos of the house. We (mostly just me on the painting part - I spend the day doing it while Sam is at work and Kaitlyn's at school) painted the powder bathroom and dining room (which will actually be my craft room).

And the master. (it's a deeper, dustier blue in person)
And put up tons of shelves and organized the garage.
We're getting there. My hope is that by the end of one more month we'll have all the major stuff done and I can concentrate on the fun decorating part.

House Updates

We've been busy busy busy in the house the last couple of weeks. Thought I would post a few photos for everyone to see.
Sam has done custom built-ins in all the closets. This is the master. I'm really loving it. We no longer even need a dresser in the bedroom, everything fits in the closet with room to spare.
Drawers, cubbies, and long hanging on one wall Double hanging on the end and a bank of shelves on the third wall.
Isn't Sam just great at this stuff?!
We also did both kids' closets with drawers, cubbies and hanging and lots of shelves in the playroom closet. I've put Before/After photos of everything on my craft blog.

Kaitlyn was VERY excited about painting her room so that was the first thing we did. She loved helping with the pink wall.

And Tyler wanted a say in what went in his so we did a "green" wall. This was as close as I wanted to go to the color he probably wanted. It's bright, but it works really well with his quilt and makes it feel like a very fun boy's room. And we finally got ourselves a real dining table. It's 60" round, bistro-style (you need barstools to sit at it) and probably a teeny bit too big for the space. But I love it and it looks fantastic with my cupboards.

So that's our quick update. Progress will probably be going a bit slower now that the holidays are over and we have to start having some sort of normal life with work and school and finding activities for the kids and all. But I fully intend to have this whole house painted and some of the rooms completely finished by...well sometime in the next few months... :)
